Victoria’s biggest alpine resort with more than 450ha of skiiable area is just 30km from picturesque Mount Beauty. The village, Australians only true ski in ski out, is at 1600m, beautifully situated in the centre of the high alpine plains with 154 lifts, the highest at 1780m. With an alpine terrain mix of beginners 17%, intermediate 60% and expert 23% there is room for everyone with more than 92 skiing trails and a 3km longest advanced run. For cross country skiing there are 21 FREE trails, with a groomed trail network of 65km, the longest trail 21km, and a terrain mix of beginner 33%, intermediate 48%, and expert 19%. Ski and equipment hire is readily available at 5 village locations. There are many eating and fine dining places, including a supermarket, and over 5,000 beds available. You’ll find banking and shopping arcade, internet access, newsagent, post office, gym, and medical and emergency services. The Resort operates a complimentary Village Shuttle transport service or alternatively you can hail a ride in the ‘snowcab’.
Almost 80% of the resort is beginner and intermediate friendly for skiers and snowboarders but expert skiers will find treeline skiing or Mt McKay the challenge they are looking for. With plenty of available water, snowmakers and groomers make the claim of reliable winter snow. There are day spas, lessons to ski or board, women’s all level ski programs designed by women for women. And of course many of the family and kids’ activities (see below) are open to everyone. The Resort also annually hosts events such as The Age Corporate Ski Race, Royal Canin Sled Dog Classic, the International acclaimed Kangaroo Hoppet and Stylewars.
Justifying its claim to be family friendly, Falls Creek offers an extensive array of activities and entertainment. There is a snowsports school for adults and kids, snow tubing, bungy trampolining, night skiing and boarding, grooming tours, free snowman competitions, free Thursday night show spectacular in July and August, backcountry tours, snowmobile tours, sunset tours, Falls-Hotham helicopter link and scenic rides, free snow boccé, snow bikes, snowshoeing, free Pete the Snow Dragon show, pay to race, and tobogganing. And if you need it, there is occasional child care at the Child Care Centre available 7 days a week.
Falls Creek is a ski-in, ski-out direct to and from your door resort with 5,000 beds to be found in self contained apartments, chalets, hotels and lodges. Whatever your budget or taste, you’ll find a café, takeaway food shop, pub, bar, lounge, nightclub or that special fine dining restaurant meal to suit you. You can even pre book a picnic hamper to take out with you on the Cross Country trails.
